Gary Gray

Gary_bioComing from a musical family, Gary played piano and guitar before settling on banjo. He has performed in public since kindergarten and his early musical influences range from Jimi Hendrix to Roy Clark to Flatt & Scruggs.

Like many people, his interest in bluegrass music piqued when the song Dueling Banjos became popular and he was asked to learn the banjo part for a school talent show. Once he was hooked on the banjo, he began seeking out jam sessions which eventually took him to the River Quay area in Kansas City, where he joined the Great White Possum String Company.

In his performing career, Gary has performed in bands playing bluegrass, country, rock & roll, top 40 and even polka music. In 1978 Gary took 2nd place in the Banjo contest at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS.

One of Gary's current interests is in his recording studio where he is honing his skills as a recording engineer and producer, services he provided on the Possum's latest recording. MoonPie Studios specializes in recording singer/songwriters who want to hear their work fully-produced.

Gary currently makes his home in the northern part of Kansas City with his wife Beth and their daughter, Sarah.

Gary's versatility on the banjo, guitar and mandolin is an integral part of Misty Mountain Revival's sound.
